If you haven't heard of Canadian high jumper Mark Boswell here's a recap of
his 1999-2000 performances: silver medallist at the 1999 world
championships; Pan Am Games champion; undefeated in 14 straight collegiate
meets for the University of Texas Longhorns through March including three
NCAA titles.
He opened the 2000 season at the Air Force Invitational leaping 2.35 metres
which was a school, conference and Canadian record. It is also the fifth
best jump this season heading into Sydney. He then won the Big 12 title
at 2.33 breaking the 2.27 meet mark he set last year.
Boswell has enjoyed past success in Sydney. He won the gold medal there at
the 1996 world junior championships despite being ranked 12th. It was the
first time a Canadian landed a world junior crown. That year MacLeans
included him in their "100 Canadians to Watch" list.
