Brad McCuaig was a member of the silver medal winning 4x100 relay team at
the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 1999 Pan American Games. He placed
second at the recent national championships in the 100-metres behind Bruny
Surin clocking 10.18. His personal best is 10.10 set in 1998.
At the 1999 world championships, he reached the quarterfinals in the 100
sprint but was not part of the 4X100 relay team that was disqualified in
the opening heat.
At the junior level he was touted as the next big superstar in Canadian
track. He won three consecutive national junior championships in the 200
metres, and it was at the 1988 world juniors in Sudbury that he was scouted
and recruited by the University of Alabama.
However he felt he wasn't going to improve in the U.S., and after a year
returned to Canada. He hooked up with John Cannon, a former Olympic sprint
coach, in Calgary and soon became a regular fixture in Canadian sprinting.
