Peter Milkovich came into the sport at age eight after his father started
the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club. An avid ice hockey player until age
20, he found that field hockey was a great way to stay in shape during the
summer. Milkovich credits the character of the team as a whole for being
able to endure the fallout of the 1998 Commonwealth Games. "We all asked
ourselves if we wanted to stop," Milkovich says, "but the everyone on the
team has made so many sacrifices. The whole team chose to keep going
because we didn't think we'd accomplished as much as we could." Though
this will certainly be his last year, Milkovich feels that this year's team
is as good as they've ever been, with a good balance between youth and
a solid core of veterans.
