Sandy Newsham fell into softball easily as her whole family plays the game.
An education graduate from the University of Winnipeg, she played on both
the 1995 and 1999 Pan Am Games teams. Though she was an alternate for the
1996 Olympics in Atlanta, she did not get to compete and is looking forward
to her Olympic debut in Sydney. In contrast to her sister and fellow
pitcher Heather, Sandy throws left, and is coached by her father Dale.
Sandy is also a standout in volleyball, winning a national title in 1993
and being named CIAU Player of the Year in 1994.
Not to be outdone in softball, she pitched a perfect game versus Netherlands Antilles at the
1999 Pan Ams. A multiple national champion and MVP, she will bring
powerful pitching and strong hitting to the 2000 Olympic team.
