Readers choose must-see attractions

If you had just one day in popular global destinations, what major landmark would you choose to see?

We asked Sun Media readers this very question, pitting the Eiffel Tower against the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Statue of Liberty against Times Square and the CN Tower against the Hockey Hall of Fame, among others.

After receiving nearly 2,500 votes, we can now reveal the results of our national survey and answer the question: "If you had just one day in a major destination, what landmark would you see?"

PARIS: Readers chose the Eiffel Tower as the top attraction in Paris, receiving 50% of votes.

LONDON: Buckingham Palace was named the top attraction in London, with 40% of Sun Media reader votes.

NEW YORK CITY: Times Square was narrowly named the must-see attraction in New York City by 31% of readers. The Statue of Liberty was a close second with 30% of votes.

SYDNEY: Sydney's iconic opera house was chosen as the must-see attraction for just one travel day in the New South Wales capital by 39% of voters.

RIO DE JANEIRO: The Statue of Christ the Redeemer was chosen by 51% of Sun Media readers as the top attraction in Rio.

LAS VEGAS: Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was chosen as the top Vegas attraction by 35% of Sun Media readers.

TORONTO: Sun Media readers chose the CN Tower as the must-visit attraction in Ontario's capital, with 41% of voters saying they would see the tallest structure in North America if they had just one day in Toronto.

MONTREAL: Old Montreal was chosen as the must-see attraction in Montreal by the vast majority (80%) of voters.

AMSTERDAM: The race to be named the must-see attraction in Amsterdam was close, with 27% of Sun Media readers saying it was the city's marijuana "coffee shops," followed by 26% saying it was the Van Gogh Museum.

BARCELONA: 50% of Sun Media readers say Barcelona's Gothic Quarter is the top attraction in the Spanish city.

ROME: If there was just one day available to travel Rome, Sun Media readers say the Colosseum (50%) is the attraction they'd most want to see.

BEIJING: The Great Wall of China was named the top attraction in Beijing by 67% of readers.

TOKYO: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden was chosen as the must-see attraction in Tokyo by 29% of Sun Media readers. Sensoji Temple was a close second with 27% of votes.

CAIRO: The Great Pyramid of Giza was named the top attraction in Cairo by 66% of Sun Media readers.

EDINBURGH: 78% of Sun Media readers chose the historic - and haunted - Edinburgh Castle as the must-see attraction in Edinburgh.
